Odd One Out is a coming-of-age documentary exploring the life and career of Adam, a Western Sydney-based prosthetics and animatronics artist whose work has spanned Australian and international film productions. Blending present-day interviews with stylised visual sequences inspired by 1980s sci-fi and horror cinema, the film examines creativity, identity, and the experience of growing up feeling like an outsider.

The project required balancing an ambitious creative vision with the practical limitations of an independent production. With a limited budget and schedule, the documentary needed to combine cinematic reenactments, observational storytelling, and interviews while remaining authentic to Adam’s personal and professional journey.
